The Complete Scandinavian Dining Room Guide
June 5, 2026 · 4 min read · Jonas Lind

Clean lines, natural oak, and warm pendant lighting — how to achieve the Nordic dining without compromise.
Start with the table
A round oak table seats four daily and six with guests, and it keeps conversation equal — nobody is stuck at the far end. Solid white oak develops a honeyed patina that veneer never will.
Hang light low
Pendants should sit 70–75 cm above the tabletop. A brass cluster at that height pools warm light exactly where food lands and faces gather.
Mix, don’t match, chairs
Four matching chairs is safe; three matching plus one lounge chair at the head is Scandinavian. Contrast keeps the room from feeling like a showroom.
Finish with linen and stone
A washed-linen runner, a travertine board, one low ceramic vase. Natural materials in threes — wood, textile, stone — complete the Nordic triangle.
